The dust has settled on the primary group stages. Out of 207 nations that began the journey, 42 have secured their place in the most expansive FIFA World Cup in history. As we enter the World Cup year, the path to the 48-team North American showpiece is nearly complete.
Here is the definitive breakdown of how the continents fared and who is left fighting in the March play-offs.
AFC (Asia) – 8.5 Slots
Asia was the first to see major drama, with the expansion providing a platform for emerging powers.

Direct Qualifiers: Japan, South Korea, Iran, Australia, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia remained dominant. However, the headlines belong to Uzbekistan and Jordan, both of whom qualified for their first-ever World Cup.

CAF (Africa) – 9.5 Slots

UEFA (Europe) – 16 Slots
The most competitive region saw 12 group winners book their tickets in November.
